If you are having some formatting issues with the new content editor, some of these tips and tricks may help! Most people use Microsoft Word documents as the source format, which can be problematic due to the way Word inserts it's formatting codes. The first tip is important if you are pasting your content from a Word document, a PDF document, or even some HTML documents made with programs like FrontPage.
- If you wish to use a Microsoft Word Document (.doc file) as your content, open the .doc file in word, copy all the content you wish to use, and then within the editor, click the "Paste as Text" button then re format your content in the editor. This is the only way to ensure you will have tidy looking content in all browsers.
For more complex layouts use the "Paste from Word" button which is the 11th button from the left in the top row of editor buttons. Check both the font and sytle removal checkboxes and paste your content using Ctrl+V within the popup window. Click OK, and then format your content using the buttons within the content editor if required. Pasting from word in this manner does clean up the word document somewhat but you can still have mixed results.
- Internet Explorer 7 is coming soon, and it contains security features hat don't allow access to the clipboard by default. Users of IE7 will need to allow access to the clipboard when prompted. It is best not to permanently enable the clipboard due to possible security issues with bogus web sites.
- If you are having issues with paragraph spacing in between paragraphs, either no paragraph break or too much space, you can try using "Shift + Enter" to add a carriage return instead of a paragraph break which is just enter. You will need 2 carriage returns, but you may find this will work better for you when controlling the paragraph breaks.
- Use the "Preview" button (5th button from left in the top row) to see what your content is going to look like in the browser before you save it to the site. How your content looks in the editor may look slightly different when its actually in the browser, so this is a great way of checking it out before you publish it.
- If you need some more space in the content window while you're typing and are not using the buttons, press the little arrow button on the left hand side of the editor controls. It will hide the editing controls for you giving you more space to work with. Click the down arrow again to see the controls again.
- We have just implimented the new version of our editor, fixing quite a few issues. Anchors (also known as bookmarks) now work properly, meaning you can link easily within the content if required.
- We have extensive demonstrations and tutorials on how to use most of the functions within the editor. You can view these online at any time as a refresher course if you have forgotten how to do something within the editor, or are just starting off and want an overview on how it all works.
