Following are some basic instructions for creating Google and MSN maps on your site if you have purchased the PhatCMS Maps plugin.
Click the Maps Admin link on the PhatCMS Admin menu.
To add a new map, fill out the form fields as follows:
- Name: The name of the particular map eg. "Your Company - Head Office"
- Type: Google or MSN. It is best to visit both sites and look at your location first to see which offers the map or satellite image you favour. MSN is at http://maps.live.com/ and Google is at http://maps.google.com/
- Map Display: Choose the appropriate map display according to the type you chose above. You need to ensure you choose the same map provider.
- Map Default Zoom: Select the appropriate zoom level, you can change this later if it does not suit.
- Map Active: The map can not be shown unless it is set to active
- Description: This is the info that is shown above the map itself.
- To Address: The street address where the map destination is for Get Directions. You can ensure the address is valid by visiting the links to your chosen map site above and trying the address. Both map services will suggest an address if you enter invalid data.
- From Address: As above, select a popular from location for example a nearby railway station or your cities CBD.
- Info Box: This is the info box or info bubble that floats above the map location you choose. It is usually best to enter address and contact info here.
- Key: Only required for Google Maps, if there is not already a map with a key provided by CWS, you can obtain one at this address: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html. You can re use this key in future maps you create.
- Lat and Long: You may enter these if you have them to six digits after the decimal point. Otherwise click the Get lat/long button and follow the instructions to find the location and get the lat and long co-ordinates.
- Click Add New Map and then you will see your map appear in a list below the new map form. You can click the view/link to map button to see the map you’ve created, copy the URL in the popup window to use as a link address to link to the map on your site.
